Robert Wisse

Robert Wisse is a clinician-entrepeneur devoted to health care innovation. Keeping eyecare accessible and affordable, builiding a sustainable future, step by step, everyday. His clinical specialization is in corneal pathology and surgery, including corneal transplantations, complex cataract surgery, and crosslinking for keratoconus.

He is the medical director of Xpert Clinics Oogzorg with the challenge to digitize and democratize eye care, whilst retaining the highest standards of quality and personal attention. With a dedicated team of eye care professionals they work on the pinnacle of modern eyecare, including laser refractive surgery and corneal transplant surgery.

Dr. Wisse is also Medical Advisor to Visibly, a Chigcago based medtech SaMD company boasting the worlds first CE and FDA certified online eye test. Remote care promotes accessibility and equality, and is the most promising solution to cater for the ever increasing demands for eyecare. His ambition is drive this digital transition in eyecare. To this end, innovation and inter-disciplinary collaboration go hand in hand. This is reflected in his co-development of TeleTriage: an innovative method for blended hybrid care pathways and inter-professional collaboration.

He has several pro bono positions, such as being president of the Dutch Cornea Society and vice-president of Vision 2020 NL.

In his former role at the UMC Utrecht he was the director of the Utrecht corneal fellowship program, vice director of the Utrecht ophthalmology residency program and director of the Utrecht Cornea Research Group. He is appointed associate professor in digital eye health and the Utrecht keratoconus clinic has been awarded a Center of Excellence by the Netherlands Federation of Universities.
