Robin Chalmers

A graduate of UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Chalmers is an independent clinical trial consultant with research interest in measurement of symptoms in dry eye, epidemiology of complications with contact lenses and post-market surveillance of contact lens health outcomes. After many years at CIBA Vision she started her Clinical Trial Consulting business in 2000.

She is the 2022 Max Schapero Award winner, and has recently been named to the AAO Hall of Fame and top 100 authors for Optometry & Vision Science. She was named as one of Contact Lens Spectrum’s 30 Most Influential People in Contact Lens Research in 2016.

She is a past chair and on the Steering Committee for the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) Fellows Doing Research (FDR) Special Interest Group, served on the AAO Research & Strategic Planning Committees and was a founding Co-Chair of the Contact Lens Assessment in Youth Study (CLAY) group and is Associate Editor for the Contact Lens and Anterior Eye.

She was Principal Investigator for large post-market surveillance studies, the ReCSS Study and the TEMPO Registry of daily disposable contact lenses. Her studies have demonstrated the increased safety profile with use of daily disposable contact lenses. She co-developed the Dry Eye Questionnaire-5 (DEQ-5) and the 8-item Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire (CLDEQ-8).
