Amit Jinabhai

After graduating with a first-class BSc (Hons) in Optometry from UMIST (2004), Amit successfully completed the College of Optometrists & Professional Qualification Examinations and registered with the General Optical Council. After qualifying, Amit worked in several clinical capacities, including within the field of refractive surgery.

Between 2008-2011, Amit completed his PhD at The University of Manchester, investigating optical quality and visual performance in patients with keratoconus.

In 2012, Amit was awarded the UK College of Optometrists' George Giles Prize for ‘outstanding postgraduate research’. In the same year, he was also awarded the Peter Abel Prize, by the Association of German Contact Lens Specialists and Optometrists (VDC/o), for ‘excellence in contact lens optics research’.

In 2017, Amit was presented with the prestigious ‘Optometry Lecturer of the Year' award, by the UK Association of Optometrists.

Amit is a Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics.
