Robin L. Chalmers, OD, FAAO, FBCLA
A 1979 graduate of UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Chalmers is an independent clinical trial consultant with research interest in measurement of symptoms in dry eye, epidemiology of complications with contact lenses and post-market surveillance of complications with contact lenses. After 6 years in private practice, she transitioned to research for CIBA Vision in Atlanta, GA for 15 years, and has had her own Clinical Trial Consulting business since 2000.
She is a past chair of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) Fellows Doing Research (FDR) Special Interest Group and collaborated on the 1st NCC Doing Research Booth. She served on the AAO Research & Strategic Planning Committees and was a founding Co-Chair of the Contact Lens Assessment in Youth Study (CLAY) group. She is Associate Editor for the Contact Lens and Anterior Eye and was Principal Investigator of the TEMPO Registry of daily disposable contact lenses and other contact lens safety studies. With colleagues, Dr. Chalmers developed and validated the Dry Eye Questionnaire-5 (DEQ-5) and the 8-item Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire (CLDEQ-8). She was named one of Contact Lens Spectrum’s 30 Most Influential People in Contact Lens Research in 2016.
In the community in Atlanta, GA, she was the 2015 Volunteer of the Year for MedShare, a non-governmental organization helping to distribute medical supplies to hospitals in countries around the world, where she is now Co-Chair of their Southeast Council. She is Treasurer of the Olmsted Linear Parks Alliance and active in voter registration efforts in Georgia.
She is married to (super-fun) Michael Purser and has two grown daughters, Julia and Rebecca.
