After completing her BSc in optometry in the Netherlands, Byki moved to the UK in 2002 to pursue a Masters at the University of Manchester. Following completion, Byki was granted a PhD sponsorship to investigate a non-invasive method for glucose measurements in the aqueous humour. She completed her doctorate in 2008 and joined City, University of London in 2009 as a lecturer. Currently she is module lead for Contact Lenses, and supervisor of several MSc and PhD students. She is a fellow of the BCLA and IACLE, and is vice-chair of BUCCLE.
